Vernon District Riding Club (VDRC) EC Bronze Hunter Jumper Show joins the BCHJA Show Family
The show is also a 2013 Canadian Interprovincial Equestrian Competition and will be held from June 7th – 9th at the beautiful VDRC grounds, 8408 Aberdeen Rd., Coldstream, BC, V1B 2J6.

BCHJA Gala
Congratulations to all the award winners who were honoured at the BCHJA Gala on January 19th. Of particular note is the winner of this year's Carol McGill Horsemanship Award, Natalie Nahirney, and trainers of the year Lindy Townley and Norah Ross. Thank you to all of the individuals who worked hard to make this year's gala a success, and the generous donors of items for the silent auction. Finally, Caroline Jones and Bill Ulmer are acknowledged for the wonderful job they did in the role of MC and special award presenter. Good luck to everyone in the up-coming 2013 season!

Jonathon Millar will do BCHJA Jumper Clinic Nov 17-18 at Thunderbird Show Park
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Kip Rosenthal is not able to do the clinic on the weekend of November 17th and 18th. Therefore the Sports Psychology Seminar scheduled for Saturday evening is cancelled.
We are happy to announce that Jonathon Millar has agreed to do the jumper clinic November 17-18th at Thunderbird Show Park. All are encouraged to come and see what is sure to be a great clinic! Any inquiries may be directed to Pam Cleeve.

A Few Kip Rosenthal Clinic Spots Left!!
There are just a few spots left for the BCHJA Kip Rosenthal Jumper Clinic at Thunderbird Show Park on Saturday/Sunday, November 17-18th. If you are a 1.10, 1.15, or 1.30m rider who would like to be considered for a place in this clinic, please contact Pam Cleeve or Patti Coldicutt as soon as possible. All riders who are interested will be considered by the selection committee. The cost of the clinic is $300.

Fall Finale at Thunderbird Show Park
The BCHJA Fall Finale at Thunderbird Show Park is fast approaching. Please note the deadline for entry is Wednesday September 5th. This years' show will feature the following specialty classes:
- $10,000 Friends of the BCHJA Grand Prix 1.30m
- $5,000 Qwick Media Mini Prix 1.20m
- $2,500 Canadian Hunter Derby
- Running Fox CET Medal Regional Finals
- CET Mini Medal Finals
Note: BCHJA points will be awarded at this show if rider, owner, and trainer hold a valid BCHJA membership and there has been entry at at least one other BCHJA show in the 2012 season (by horse for Jumper/Hunter divisions or rider for Equitation divisions)

BC plans to have a team at this event to be held at the Sacramento Horse Show, Sept 25-30, 2012. If you are interested, you must contact Laura Balisky no later than Wednesday August 22nd.

BCHJA Fall Finale 2011 News
We are happy to announce that Southlands Riding Club will be hosting BCHJA Fall Finale 2011 during the week ending September 25th. Southlands offers two covered competition rings, two all weather competition rings, 3 warm-up rings, plus the grass and cross-country area for competition (weather permitting). Over 230 stalls will be available on the grounds. Additional stabling is also available in the Southlands area in private barns. Trailer parking will be made available off site, in reasonable proximity to the club.
Please look forward to a warm welcome from Southlands Riding Club and the equestrian neighborhood. Preparations have already begun, and your support and assistance would be most welcome. Please contact any member of the BCHJA Executive and board to discuss how you can support the development of the Fall Finale this year – we look forward to hearing from you!

BCHJA Gala
BCHJA would like to thank Caroline Jones for being our MC, and leading us through the festivities as over 210 awards were presented to our deserving members last evening. Congratulations to Alex Vien who was the recipient of the 2010 Carol McGill Horsemanship award, presented by his coach, Bill Ulmer. Several special acknowledgments were also made: Dominique Shone, for her accomplishments in the Singapore Youth Olympics; Sam Buirs, Judy Wise, and Total Touch, on their successful venture to the Nations Cup in Buenos Aires; and Lisa Williams, Lindy Townley, Norah Ross, Georgia Hunt, and San Marino, on a very successful year culminating in the Grand Hunter Championship at the National Horseshow in Syracuse, New York. BCHJA would like to express appreciation to Steve Charles, of Totem Photographics, for providing hundreds of pictures for the gala slide show, as well as designing the beautiful photographic plaques that each 3rd place award winner received. Here is your Jump Canada Levy at work for you. What is the JC Levy you ask? You know that $10 you pay at every gold horse show? Jump Canada sends some of this back to BCHJA for special programming use.
Introducing the 2010 Jump Canada Levy Rider Bursary Program. $500 Rider Bursaries will be awarded at every 2010 BCHJA Gold Show, to top ribbon placing BCHJA members in selected "feature" hunter/jumper classes. The first Bursary classes will be at Thunderbird. Click HERE for more details...

With the new show season just days away from beginning, we hope you are all organizing your required memberships, and renewing (or joining!) BCHJA for the 2010 season. Some of you will notice the new features and drop-down menus on this site. We hope you will find these changes positive, and look forward to offering more soon. For those who renewed or joined before March 20th, you will need to log on to your account to complete 2 details to finalize your membership for this year. You will need to read and acknowledge a points/membership rule, and also check which zone you reside in (your home mailing address, not your barn if this is different). This is required for zone stats only, and will in no way affect your BCHJA points accrual. Thanks for your patience as BCHJA grows and develops. Gala Evaluation Results!
Thank you to all who took the time to fill out the Gala Evaluation Survey. You may review summary slides of the gala survey HERE. Seventy (70) responses were received; 59 from those who attended, and 11 from those who were not at the gala. Nominations are now being received for the 2009 AMY DUNDAS HEAD MEMORIAL TROPHY (must be received by Dec 11, 2009)
This award, to be presented at the BCHJA Gala on January 9, 2010, will be awarded to the Canadian bred jumper who has accrued the highest total points in BCHJA shows over the 2009 season (1.20m and over). The deadline for receipt of nominations for this award is Friday, December 11th, 12 noon. BC At The Royal!
BCHJA can be very proud of our riders and coaches at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto. Team spirit was a real strength, and frequently commented on throughout the week. Also appreciated were the many family members and friends who travelled to cheer on our competitors. We would certainly be remiss if we failed to mention our wonderful equine competitors!! Congratulations to Silver Fox Horse Sales who took the grand prize for their very creative entry to the Gift Basket contest at the BCHJA Fall Finale (pictures to follow). There were 14 fabulous entries in this new event, and all contributors are gratefully acknowledged, and to be congratulated on their wonderful entries. Be sure to come to the BCHJA gala on January 9, 2010, if you want to see all of the entries, which will be available for bidding in the Gala Silent Auction.

North American Young Riders Competition - RESULTS!! CONGRATULATIONS to Joelle Froese, Dominique Shone, Katie Waring (and one Alberta rider, whose name will be added as soon as I get it!!) who mastered 2 challenging 1.50m rounds, resulting in 8th place ribbons for the team. Congratulations also to Joelle Froese and Condor who won the bronze in the individual competition. Safe journey home team - we are very proud of you!!!

Over 200 awards were presented last evening at the annual year end gala, with over 400 members and guests in attendance. In addition to the awards detailed HERE two surprise announcements were made. Congratulations to Claire Kaulback, who received the 2008 Carol McGill Trophy, and Gary Brewster (Royal Viali) who was awarded the first Thunderbird Show Park Bursary as the leading BC Jump Canada Talent Squad Rider. Gary also placed second (Watermark), and there was a three-way tie for third: Meredith Ellis (Destino); Andrea Strain (Luigi); and Laura Jane Tidball (Rocco).
